2-link spacing compared to 4-link spacing
Dec 24, 2023
The difference between 2-link spacing tire chains and 4-link spacing tire chains refers to the arrangement and density of the individual cross chains on the tire chain itself.
In a 2-link spacing chain, each cross chain spans two side links before connecting to the next cross chain. This results in a closer arrangement of cross chains, providing more traction on slippery surfaces—ideal for severe snow or icy conditions (cross chain every other side chain link).
On the other hand, in a 4-link spacing chain, each cross chain spans four side links before connecting. This creates wider spacing between cross chains, offering a smoother ride with less vibration—better suited to lighter winter conditions or paved surfaces (cross chain every fourth side chain link).
The choice between 2-link spacing and 4-link spacing depends on the road and weather conditions you expect, and your preference for traction, ride comfort, and noise level.
