Snow Chains

Jun 3rd 2023

Snow chains, also known as tire chains, are devices designed to enhance traction on snow-covered or icy roads. They consist of a series of metal chains that wrap around the tires of a vehicle, providing additional grip and stability in slippery conditions.

The main purpose of snow chains is to increase tire-to-road friction, allowing the vehicle to maintain traction and prevent slippage. When driving on snow or ice, tires without chains can struggle to grip the road surface, leading to difficulties in accelerating, braking, and steering. Snow chains help alleviate these issues by providing extra traction, which improves overall safety and control.

Snow chains are particularly useful in areas with heavy snowfall or icy conditions. They are commonly used by drivers of cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles during winter months or in mountainous regions where snow is prevalent. By installing snow chains on the tires, drivers can navigate slippery roads with greater confidence, reducing the risk of accidents and improving their ability to traverse challenging terrain.

It's important to note that snow chains are not meant to be used on dry pavement, as they can cause excessive tire wear, damage the road surface, and impair vehicle handling. They should only be used when necessary and should be removed once road conditions improve or when transitioning to a cleared road.
