Snowblower tire chains

Jun 04, 2023

Snowblower tire chains are designed to provide extra traction and improve maneuverability when operating a snowblower on slippery surfaces, such as snow and ice. Here are some steps to install snowblower tire chains:

  1. Gather the necessary equipment: You will need the appropriate size of snowblower tire chains that match your snowblower's tire dimensions—use our tire chain size guide with measurement instructions—as well as any tools required for installation (such as pliers or a wrench).
  2. Preparation: Park your snowblower on a flat and stable surface, ensure it is turned off and the engine is cooled down. Engage the parking brake for added safety. If you’re still deciding on accessories, browse tire chain tensioners & adjusters to make installation and fitment easier.
  3. Position the chains: Lay out the chains on the ground and untangle them if necessary. Identify the correct orientation for each chain (inside vs. outside links) before placing them on the tire.
  4. Apply the chains: Starting with one tire, drape the chains over the tire's tread. Make sure the chains are centered and evenly distributed across the tread blocks.
  5. Fasten the chains: Connect the ends of the chains or use the provided fastening mechanisms to secure the chains. If your set uses cams, a cam tightening tool for tire chains makes it quick to lock everything down.
  6. Adjust the tension: If your chains have adjustable tensioners, tighten them for a snug fit. For small rims commonly found on snowblowers, consider a spring tire chain tensioner for snowblower/ATV/garden tractor to keep chains centered and tight during operation.
  7. Repeat for the other tires: Repeat the process for the remaining tire(s) that require chains.
  8. Check the fit: Ensure that the chains are properly centered and provide even coverage. Remove or secure any excess side-chain links. If needed, browse our tensioners & adjusters selection to fine-tune the fit.
  9. Test the chains: Start the snowblower and operate it in a controlled area to confirm proper installation. Listen for unusual noises or vibration and re-tighten as needed.
