Tire Chain Size Guide
If your tire size is not listed, we may still be able to help. Use this guide to measure your tire so we can check possible tire chain options.
Important
During peak season, we may not be able to respond to every custom snow chain request. Measurements must be emailed so we can review them accurately.
Do Not Call In Measurements
Measurements need to be emailed so we have the details in writing and can compare them correctly.
What to Send Us
Email us with the word MEASUREMENT in the subject line. Include the following information so we can check your tire chain options.
The 3 Measurements We Need
Measure carefully in inches. A tape measure works best. These measurements help us compare your tire to available chain patterns.
Tread Width
Measure the outside width of the tread, from outer tread edge to outer tread edge.
Tire Diameter
Measure straight across the tire through the center, from outside edge to outside edge.
Sidewall Height
Measure from the edge of the wheel/rim to the top of the tire tread.
Measurement Examples
Tread Width
Measure the outside width of the tread.
Tire Diameter
Measure across the center of the tire.
Sidewall Height
Measure from rim edge to tread.
Know Your Tire Size
The tire size is located on the tire sidewall. In the examples below, the tire sizes are circled in red.
Example: P215/65R15
Example: LT235/85R16

Tire chains are designed to fit a range of tire sizes and tread designs. The overall length of the chains may be longer than necessary. As long as the cross chain width is correct, the overall length can often be shortened by removing one or more cross chains.
Do Not Remove From Fastener Side
Do not remove a cross chain from the fastener side. Removing from the wrong side can make the chain harder to tighten correctly.
Shorten From the Tail End
If shortening is needed, remove a cross chain from the tail end. The extra side chain length can be cut off or wire tied back to the side chain.
Common tools include a cold chisel, pliers, hammer, and safety goggles. Use caution when opening or closing cross chain hooks.
We usually recommend wire tying the extra length to the side chain instead of cutting it off immediately, so it remains available if needed later.
